Pedestal arrangement in St Margaret's Church, Rottingdean
- 6th February 2015
I was delighted and honoured to become part of one of the floral teams at St Margaret's Church in Rottingdean. The church is in the northeastern corner of the Green, the ancient heart of the village, and has been a place of worship in this position since the Saxon period. Parts of the structure date from the 13th century and and the churches a Grade II listed building.
The church is built of flint, with stone dressings and a tiled roof. Sir Edward Burne-Jones, Pre-Raphaelite artist and designer, is buried in the nave as are his wife Georgina and their granddaughter, novelist Angela Thirkell. Burne-Jones designed many of the stained glass windows in the church too.
My floral team today, headed by Pam Pheby, consisted of Sue, Val and Susan.
Pam and I did a pedestal arrangement each in hot pinks with a gorgeous variety of foliage; Pam's went immediately to the left of the pulpit whilst my design was placed on the opposite right hand side.
Sue made an arrangement in the entrance while Val made one over the font and Susan's again was placed in one of the lovely stained glass windows - all using the same colours as Pam and I, and all looked so beautiful.
